ABB did not waste time responding to the quick run up in gasoline prices following Katrina (sure to rebound briefly in the wake of Rita). The company has a white paper discussing ways to save energy--something that also saves money.
Electric motors constitute a huge percentage of electric use. Among the ways to cut this energy and money consumer is by adding a variable frequency drive. I once sold and set up a VFD for a customer. He knew the motor was running (pump application in a waste water plant) by looking at the ammeter on the wall. After I set up the drive and we turned on the motor, the meter barely registered. The customer was dismayed. Thought he spent a lot of money and it didn't work. So I showed him the rpms. Then he believed me about the energy savings and put them on all his larger motors. Hey, it does work. Check out the white paper and save yourself (and all of us) some energy costs.
