Well, normally my hearing is excellent, but I talked to so many people about wireless over the past week--plus a few emails and a comment on the blog--and somewhere I got lost on what everyone was referring to. Yes, I'm talking about the Hart wireless announcement. But my friend Chuck Micallef set me straight--as much as is possible. The entire spec going out for vote is actually quite comprehensive--and doesn't intentionally favor or exclude anyone. If anyone spoke to me about SP100 (yes Dave, I do know the difference), I'm quite frankly losing interest in the blow-by-blow there. We'll see if they can ever get anything close to consensus, then I'll perk up. People are using all kinds of wireless networks--and they will use more. They will use them for many different assorted applications. The standard will eventually follow. More important is the cooperation at a different layer--Hart, EDDL Cooperation Group,
FDT Group and OPC. This has great potential to benefit process industries practitioners.
