Quick note. I'm in Italy, just down the road from Bologna. Up at 6 am Sunday, finally getting to sleep. Flew to Milan as a guest of the Italian Trade Commission. Met the tour group at a machine tool manufacturer at 9 am this morning (Italian time). We made two other stops, just finished dinner and I'm finished.
First takeaways from my series of meetings (10 more over the next 4 days). The global economic meltdown is having a serious effect in the Italian machine building industry. Second, innovation is alive and well in small companies--visited a textile machine builder doing some interesting stuff.
I'll have more of a report--and some additional news--when I wake up. Ciao
Oh, by the way, for those interested in such things, there is a new female Mintchell in the world as of Saturday. My son's wife had a little girl on Independence Day.
