Did you get caught up in the pre-announcement Google Chrome hype last week? I thought announcing a new product 14 months before it will be available (that means it's barely in sketchbook phase now) went out with the millennium. Kevin Kelleher writing on the GigaOm network offers an analysis. So many high tech journalists and bloggers went crazy analyzing the impact of Google vs. Microsoft--all based on phantom information. I can remember some preannouncements in the automation software business years ago, but haven't run across it for years.

Tony over at the Factory Automation Software Blog asks where are the inexpensive magnetic linear encoders and if Los Angeles was ever like Las Vegas in a couple of interesting posts.

Meanwhile on the Green Power front, ABB announced that it has joined with other European companies in the Desertec industrial initiative--the idea of generating clean electricity in the world's deserts. It is estimated that by 2050 solar power from the northern Sahara could meet about 15 percent of European electricity needs and a significant portion of local electricity demand in the countries of North Africa.

I didn't make Sunday with my Flickr photos of my Italian tour, but I'm working on them.
