Finally back on the grid just as I'm packing to leave Italy. The trip will be 7 long days, but we saw many interesting machines and met many interesting people. OEM companies (original equipment manufacturers, in this case machine builders) over here are much like Cardinal Tool in Englewood, Ohio where I spent a few years managing marketing, some engineering and projects. They are mostly smaller companies, but these all had several million in sales and exported globally. We saw machines for working with metal, ceramics, plastic, leather and pasta--talk about variety. We visited two packaging machinery companies--and one who also builds packaging machines but only for integration with their other lines. The hospitality everywhere was fantastic. Never had a glass of chianti, but sparkling white wine was everywhere. We sampled a variety of local wines in the various places we visited.
I'll sort through my notes for a while on the plane home today and will have more later. Hope to organize my photos and have them on Flickr Sunday as well.
On a personal note, little girl born July 4 is doing well. I did get to see a couple of pictures. Everyone is supposed to be home and doing well the last I heard. Thanks for the notes.
