I guess to show me and Amy that they don't discriminate between weekdays and weekends, Ben has been getting us up way early these last few days. I think he started knocking on our door at about 6:15 AM, today. And he's persistent about it. We tried ignoring it a couple of days ago, I insisted that we weren't going to respond until 7:15 AM (the time we've designated as their official "wake up" time; but he just kept knocking. The knocking went from gentle little taps on the door, to rapid, two-handed slaps and bangs. He kept knocking for about 45 minutes.
The boys are great fun in the car, though. It's hilarious to listen to Ben and Josh, who share the back-most bench of the car. Ben likes to comment on how fast the car is going anytime we get onto the freeway, and Josh likes to scream his agreement; it goes something like this:
Ben: Oh no, Josh! We're going fast. Josh, we're going...
Josh: BAAAHH! FAAASTTT! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!
(Repeat over and over until the next game)
The next game is the "Big Sign" game. Most of the freeway signs are placed across bridges where the freeway crosses a street below; there's always a slight bump when you drive onto the short bridge, and then another bump when you drive off. So, Ben has associated "big signs" with this bump, and invented the following dialog:
Ben: Oh no, Josh! It's a big sign!
Josh: AAAHHH! AAAHHH!! SIGN! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!
(Repeat at every sighting of a freeway sign)
It's great fun to listen to, even though it can be a bit loud at times. Anyway, our car rides have become quite hilarious. Oh yeah, this morning's back seat conversation was great. "No, Josh. That toy's not for eating, that's a toy," says Ben, followed by silence. "Jaw-awsh! That's a toy-oy! You don't eat toys," Ben reproves. Still silence from the other side of the bench. I look in the rear view mirror; Josh is sitting quietly in his car seat, a purple and yellow toy dangling from his mouth, his glasses resting on the end of his nose, perfectly content. I love it.
