The weather was wonderful today, and we took advantage of it to go for a walk with the boys. Josh is feeling much better, and although Ben had a fever (as did daddy) before going to be last night, he (and daddy) were both feeling well this morning.
We took a walk up the street to a park, where Ben and Josh played on the playground, while Joseph snoozed in the stroller. I still panic a little when I see Ben running, climbing, and playing on a playground; I'm always afraid that he'll fall and hurt himself, but he hasn't, yet. It's amazing to see how agile he has become, not only physically, but socially. There was a little girl, perhaps a couple of years older than Ben, who saw someone playing on the playground, and ran to play along. Ben wasn't a bit shy, and had a blast chasing her around the playground, following her up ladders and down slides.
Ben doesn't understand all of the rules of the various playground games, yet. The little girl wanted to play hide and seek, and since Ben was younger, he was automatically "it." So, he counted to 10 and gave chase for awhile, but eventually he became more interested in just playing on the slides. The little girl, now joined by another boy, continued playing, even though Ben was clearly ignorant of his role in the game. Regardless, he had a blast.
Josh was having fun, too. Again, I'm amazed at his agility. He was climbing stairs and going down slides, and had a great time. Mommy kept him company, while daddy comforted Joseph, who woke up and wanted some attention. Josh went down some fairly challenging slides for a boy of his age. I can't believe how old my boys are.
After the park, we went to dinner at a nearby Mexican restaurant, El Patio. The meal was good. Although we order a quesadilla for Josh, his meal consisted of dipping chips in the salsa and then sucking the salsa off of the chip; to Josh a tortilla chip is simply a utensil for transporting salsa. Eventually, he dispensed with the formalities and just went at the salsa with his hands. Eating time is still a bit of a challenge with Josh.
We wiped him up after the meal, and walked home. The boys took a bath, and even though it was only 6:30 PM, Ben was ready for bed. They were in bed by 7:00, with some protests from Josh, who really didn't get a say in the whole bedtime decision. Daddy went to Coldstone creamery and got a delicious quart of "Apple Pie a la Coldstone" to share with mommy; mmmm, what a treat. A great topper to a nice day.
