The 1000 Year Turn Around [posted by Troy] Think about this one: By 750 AD, Latin was dead. No one on earth spoke it save for a handful of Monks, priests, and scholars. The ability to read became a powerful tool used by the Church and upperclasses. Rome is thought to be founded around 753 BC. So, within 1000 years, Rome was founded, a new language dominated the wolrd, and then died. There is a lesson in here somewhere for modern Americans.
