Hunkering Down I'm sitting here not far from the blazing wood stove clad in a fleece jacket yet I'm still cold! It's -27 degrees outside with the windchill and I guess my system hasn't gotten used to the sudden change in temperature. I could have happily stayed inside all day. Instead, I forced myself (with Jamie's help) to cart a truck load of cans and bottles to the recycling centre, taught my regular Saturday piano lessons and did a bit of grocery shopping. Apart from that, I've been hunkering down. Dinner was real 'winter' food: caribou and wild cranberry stew with dumplings, and stewed plums for dessert. Stewed fruit is such old fashioned fare, but I had a real craving for it today. Now I'm going to take myself and my book Life of Pi off to have a hot bath. When I get chilled to the bone as I am now, a bath is the only thing that warms me up.
