More bad news for those who prefer symptom relief over problem solving...
Painkillers Damage Intestine, U.S. Expert Says
It seems that almost daily there are new studies surfacing that show yet more problems with the various drugs that we use to mask the symptoms of our health problems. As a nation we have become obsessed with having "a pill for every ill". Unfortunately, our Pharmaceutical Industry has not done a very good job at curing ills - they prefer to give us pills to relieve symptoms.
Let's get serious here folks - nobody has headaches because they suffer from an Aspirin deficiency. Nobody has heartburn because their body is not producing enough Nexium. Nobody has arthritis because they don't have enough Vioxx. These are all drugs that cover up the symptoms of an illness or disease - they have nothing to do with clearing up the disease itself. Wouldn't it really be better to find out what is actually causing the headaches or heartburn or arthritis, and solve that problem instead of just covering up the symptoms with a toxic chemical concoction that causes any number of problems of it's own?
With regard to the intestinal damage seen in people taking NSAID drugs, I was appalled to read the following in this article:
' Some experts have recommended using antacid drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPI (news - web sites)) to reduce the damaging effects of stomach acid in NSAID patients. But PPIs do not affect the small intestine, Graham said.
Instead, he said, an older drug called misoprostol can help protect the stomach lining. "It is the only drug approved to reduce the rate of bleeding," Graham said. '
Yikes! These so-called "experts" are so focused on pushing a pill to mask symptoms that they cannot see the obvious - If the NSAIDs are causing damage, don't use them! Instead, they would simply prescribe yet another pill, with yet more side effects, to cover up the side effects of the first pill! Is this ethical? Is this "good medicine?" To continue to give a drug that causes bleeding, and to try to cover up that problem with another drug that only slows down the bleeding? Horrors! There is no logic or good sense anywhere in that!
The final paragraph of the article says: ' The American Gastroenterological Association estimates that more than 30 million Americans take over-the-counter or prescription drugs for headaches and arthritis.'
Wouldn't it be great if those people could find relief for these ills without drugs? It can be done - Dr. Myatt deals successfully with both these problems and many more on a daily basis. We have patients who suffered from debilitating headaches who suffer no more. We have patients who could barely walk because of arthritic pain who now walk, and dance, and even hike again. We have patients who spent miserable nights awake with heartburn and acid reflux who sleep peacefully and awake refreshed, their digestive problems a thing of the past. And all these things are done without resorting to the toxic offerings of the Big Drug Companies.
It can be done! You can do it! Visit us at www.DrMyattsWellnessClub.com and learn more about how alternative, natural therapies can allow you to live without the toxic chemical crutches of the Pharmaceutical industry.
Cheers, Nurse Mark
