A man in a village was accused of murdering his wife several years ago. She had suddenly disappeared and shortly after that a woman's body was found floating in a lake close to the village. After several weeks of interrogation the man admitted the crime and was sentenced to death. However, a higher court changed that sentence to a long time in prison. Luckily for him, because last week his wife suddenly turned up again. It turned out she ran away from him because of the poverty in the village, and had started a new life on China's east coast. After many years she decided to return to the village to see her daughter, because she missed her so much.

The man declared that the police had tortured him, and that after 10 days without sleep he was half unconscious when they forced him to put his fingerprint under a statement saying that he was the murderer. In prison his life was very difficult and he now suffers from several illnesses. Needless to say that the man did not want to meet his wife anymore. (source: Shanghai Daily)

Since last weekend most publick parks in Shanghai have become really public, as nobody has to pay entrance anymore. The Shanghai Daily was shocked to find out that kids now play football on the grass and noted that one ball even hit an older man. The newspaper even felt it was worth a frontpage story with the title Stampede in parks Shanghai! Welcome to the real world.
