Windows Hurts
A picture named 030605.jpg

A mildly amusing, but unfortunately all too common ordeal for everyday Windows user. The Mac truly does spoil us by showing us how good things can be done when enough care and attention is paid to the little things.

Other goodies to be found this week on Apple Matters include an interview with Seth Godin.

Our Passion, Your whatever :) - Microsoft's Mediocre Marketing

Kathy Sierra rips apart the Microsoft commercials. I agree and I've hated them from day one (almost as much as I hated the last MSFT Office campaign). Kathy's right about all of this and more. Scoble argues that he likes the new Start Something campaign more. I agree, it's better but it's a far cry from what needs to be done.

Dori's point is correct, more and more sophisticated users, the kind who tell others what to buy are using Macintosh. They use them because Apple markets their products in a way that emphasizes lifestyle as well as creates aspirational desires that users believe they can achieve. Even if they never create music with GarageBand or make the next Star Wars film with iMovie. Scoble thinks Apple's market share rise is about security, that's a fine way to reframe the argument but there's a lot more to it than that. That's only one small part of the equation. Hint, it's part of the reason that iPod is the dominant music player and why no one's buying Windows Media based devices for the most part.

Mac Inside

This week certainly has provided the Mac community with it's share of far fetched rumors, the biggest of which will be either confirmed or laughed at on Monday morning when Steve takes the stage at WWDC.

Unless you've been under a rock this week, you've not doubt heard that News.com flat out stated that Apple will announce their switch to Intel chips at WWDC but when you read the article, their sources are iffy at best, yet as soon as they said it - countless big name news sites picked it up and made is gospel. If it does turn out to be false, it's just one more example of the mass media reporting without bothering to do such trivial things like verifying the sources, leads, etc. If they're right, I'll be eating crow.

Personally I think Shawn King nailed it the other night when he recalled what the bigger picture ramifications would be for the developers should this be real. Ironically, I imagine that the 'switch to intel' will be something more along the lines of Apple choosing to use Intel's new WiFiMax chip or something non-CPU related.
