As of this writing, all my work from home is done, and the server has
been happily upgraded. In my work today, I discovered an as yet
unresolved bug in the Apache module that controls authorization, remote
file system access, and home directory supports for eDirectory
installations. Well, user authentication is supported via two
different means, but only one of those works. I get to explain
this to the on-site administrator tomorrow morning, but that should not
be a big deal. As the work is done, I will be happy
tomorrow.
As promised in my earlier post, I am now enjoying an nice beverage. I decided to open a Stella Artois,
and I am enjoying its nice taste as I write this entry. When I
was trying to figure out how I would "celebrate" the completion of my
work, though, I was looking at my bar goods. The bottom
line is I need some particular bar additions:
- Tonic
- Sweet Vermouth
- Angostura Bitters
- Maraschino Cherries
- Limes and Lemons
- Good Scotch
Some of the ingredients above, when paired with my Maker's Mark,
will allow me to enjoy one of my favorite adult beverages: the Maker's
Mark Manhattan. I know, it is an old man's drink, but, GOD DAMN
does it taste good. So, tomorrow, on my way home from the gym, I
will be stopping off at the Wine Market to stock up on these goods.
I am off to do a little light reading and enjoy the rest of my beverage.

The last day has been one of those days at work. Occasionally, I
have to do some work late at
night--sometimes remotely, sometimes while on site. Essentially,
this means work pays for my cable internet access.
Last night, I started doing work to complete the server upgrade we
started about two weeks ago. The upgrade process is taking longer
for a variety of reasons: upgrading a production server to new
hardware, upgrading the server to NetWare 6.5, and then migrating the
data from the old filesystem to the new filesystem. Because users
need to be able to access their data, we needed to take our time and
schedule this work. Last night, I was performing the migration of
data from an old volume to a new volume (for those geeks out there,
from NetWare's TFS to NSS).
Well, everything was going along smoothly last night, and I left my
machine to watch 24 (which was a good episode, by the way). I
came back to check it, and it had a little more than 15 minutes
left. I went off to do some other things, and I came back.
The progress bar and time left did not change. I let it sit there
for a little more time, but then I gave up and restarted it all over
again. Just around 11 PM, the process restarted itself and
cranked through until this morning. When I got to the office this
morning, I set about on the last two things I needed to get done: get
the web server up and running and finish off the volume
migration.
I will finish the volume migration tonight, and the finishing touches
will be applied tomorrow morning. Once that is done, there will
once again be some joy in Mudville.
The bottom line: I am going to enjoy some beer tonight. Damn work and its driving me to drink beer!
