I gotta have more cowbell.

So, I get out of bed this morning at my usual ass-crack of dawn time.  I am getting dressed, and I am listening to WYPR, as I usually do.  While I am listening to the radio, I hear all of the school closings.  The usual morning guy says, since it is a pledge drive, that everything is closed.  On a hunch, I decide to visit my place of employment's home page.  I am greeted with a "Weather Alert" link from the page.  Of course, it has yet to start snowing in Baltimore.

I click on the link, and I am greeted with the following text:

The University is Closed Today, Feb. 24, 2005

The University of Maryland is closed today, Thursday, Feb. 24, due to the snowstorm moving into the area from the south.

All libraries are closed. Some services for resident students will be open on a limited basis.

See relevant Web Sites for detailed information.

See Web sites for Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and Terrapin Athletics for schedule changes.

Please monitor this Web site for updated information.

That's just great.  It's just after 6 AM, and I am already up.  So, I eat some breakfast, watch some of the newscasts talking about the impending doom.  Then, I decide to go back to bed.

Now, I am back up, so I should start looking for a place to grab a beer.  Who's in?

Yesterday, I attended a Novell seminar at the Hyatt at the Inner Harbor. The seminar was called Expanding Choice Open Enterprise Seminar. Essentially, a presentation telling me all about the next version of Novell's server offerings, with HP selling their wares.

One of the nice things about this is that I got paid to do this, and I had a nice commute with my two feet as opposed to driving over thirty miles and fighting some of my closest traffic friends. This made me pine for a job working in or around Baltimore. It would be so awesome to have a job where I could walk to the office. My car would never have to move, which would be such a great change. (By the way, anyone wanting to hire a pretty good systems administrator around Baltimore, please let me know.)

The other thing about a seminar like this is they give out what we in the industry call "spliffs." Back in the heady days of the dot-com boom, you used to get really cool stuff. Now, you get a t-shirt, a hat, or a mug. Of course, they gave away an iPod which I did not win. Bastards!

Anywho, I won a shirt and hat, and then I was barred from winning everything else.

The presenter--a Novell SE I have known for years--called on me to ask a couple of other questions. How can I help it if I am so damn smart.
