Book Reviews from participants in the Pollinate Your Mind Summer Reading Club

Ender's War by Orson Scott Card: A young boy is training up to lead a fleet do defend Earth from aliens. Unbeknownst to him, he wins the war.

An Hour to Live and Hour to Love by Richard and Kristine Carlson: The audio book recaptures moments the author (Richard Carlson) recounts his story about "an hour to live, an hour to love". If he only had an hour to live he would spend it with his wife "Kristine". She shares memories prior to his untimely death. Cherishing the moments they did share together. This audio helps you to prioritize what really is important in life, don't sweat the small stuff.

Witch from the Sea by Philippa Carr: The mother solves a murder (two in fact) from her lost journals. It's a romance/gothic story.

Bad luck and trouble by Lee Child: A very good mystery/thriller read. All of the codes/numbers/sq root clues were a bit far fetched. But all and all a very good page turner. When the unexpected happens it makes the story much more real. This would make any reader a great beach read this summer. When characters don't play by the rules, ti makes them seem more human. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good thriller/murder/mystery book.

Catamarans offshore by Rudy Choy: Book is a little old but some things never change. It was very good, true stories. And sailing seamanship.

The Secret Adversary by Agatha Christie: Book uses the author's travel experiences to make the exotic environments believable.

When the tripods came by John Christopher: Sci-fi, earth invaders, fast moving, finished it in one afternoon.

Before I say goodbye by Mary Higgins Clark: This author weaves a good suspense story. She is the queen of suspense. The story is about a woman who has ESP and gets feelings about her dead relatives all mixed in with a murder plot.

I heard that song before by Mary Higgins Clark: Storyline seems to move at a slower pace as compared to a number of the author's other books.

Perennial All Stars by Jeff Cox: This book identifies perennials that are hardy and stable and that beautify your home without spending a lot of money.

From Vines to Wines by Jeff Cox: Very good information on how to plant grape vines, what type of soil, and how to trellis for best results (and why!)

A Strange World by Martine Delfos: A Strange World is a scholarly yet accessible guide to Autism. The organization of the book assists the reader in locating key points. The case studies are interesting, but distracting to the flow of text. Delfos knows her subject and communicates it well without dumbing down the content.

Something Blue by Emily Giffin: This is a sequel to "Something Borrowed", and it continues the story of a character (Darcy) in that book. Darcy's charmed life is suddenly turned upside down when she finds herself pregnant and alienated from her boyfriend, family, and two closest girlfriends. The story follows her journey of self-awareness and forgiveness. I have enjoyed every book I've read from this author.
