Book Reviews from Master The Art of Reading participants

Just Take my Heart by Mary Higgins Clark: Heavy on the court setting and the story's ending comes about abruptly.

Noble House by James Clavell: On a par with Sho-Gun with a fascinating insight into big business practices of buy outs and selling short. Written in the '80s yet oh so familiar to the 2009 stock market activity. 1200 pages to isolate you from family members and pets. (This book drove my dog nuts for it's sheer size and my undivided attention paid for over a week.)

Deception by Catherine Coulter: Good book...kept me wanting more.

Kiss by Ted Dekker: Great mystery and suspense! Great message of God using painful events to bring us to a new perspective.

Let my heart be broken by the things that break the heart of God by Richard Gehman: An older book I saw that is very heart wrenching and grabs one so that putting the book down is difficult. It tells of the compassion of one man-Bob Pierce-who helps meet needs in the world. Should be required reading for everyone.

Prairie Tale by Melissa Gilbert: I'm afraid I have to be honest. This book about Melissa Gilbert's life was not one of the better memoirs I've read. Melissa Gilbert will always be known for the role that made her a household name-Laura "half-pint" Ingalls-Wilder on Little House on the Prairie. However, once her stint on the show ended Melissa started down a destructive road many stars are familiar with, but is foreign to us. Late nights filled with partying with the Brat Pack and others, her on again-off again relationship with Rob Lowe, drugs, alcohol, one-night stands, and a whole bout of plaguing plight can easily sum up her straying off the path of greatness. For anyone who's looking for a behind the scenes account of Little House on the Prairie will be sadly disappointed for it is only covered briefly.

Perfectly True Tales of a Perfect Size 12 by Robin Gold: An easy read about a domestic Diva and her attempt to get what she wants only to discover what she really wants is different than she thought. A little predictable.

C is for Corpse by Sue Grafton: I really enjoyed this book. Usually in a mystery you can guess what's going to happen as the story moves along, but this story kept me guessing until the last page. I love how she ends the books like the last summary page of a report.

D is for Deadbeat by Sue Grafton: I love how Sue Grafton keeps you guessing about her next story. D is for Deadbeat was an unexpected story about a repeat criminal offender and the crime that took his life.
