Looking for an Alzheimer's treatment

Elderly Couple outsideAs people age, sometimes they become more forgetful. A name that was easy to recall no longer is or specific details from events become fuzzy. At its worst, people can develop Alzheimer's Disease.

Lots of research is being done to find a way to slow the development of Alzheimer's and while currently no method exists, a new study was recently released with some interesting findings.

The study looked at whether Omega-3 fatty acids did anything to slow the progression of the disease. Sadly the study found that people already diagnosed with Alzheimer's who took an Omega-3 supplement showed no real improvement. However the study found that taking the supplement helped those who were just starting to become forgetful.

Researchers said more work needs to be done before they make a recommendation that people should take the supplement, but it seems to be a good stepping stone.

Until a true treatment is found, you can use some of these resources to help a loved one who may be suffering:

National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke
Medline Plus

Book Reviews from Master The Art of Reading participants

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer: Wonderful book. Awesome story and characters. Spellbound from cover to cover. Had to read it twice, and couldn't put it down.

Northern Lights by Tim O'Brien: This book fell somewhat short of its very high praise. I had a hard time believing the wife, Grace, as a real personality. In spite of that, it was a very good adventure story if you could ignore Paul Perry's irritating obsession with a teenage girl.

Coal Run by Tawni O'Dell: I liked this book. Although I found an occasional sentence written in a confusing way, the details of the coal miner's living conditions, speech, and mannerisms seemed very authentic and enlivening. The plot was prettty good witih elements of a myster.

Cross Country by James Patterson: This is one ofthe first James Patterson books I have been disappointed in. The story drags on from midboook and the same threats/situations repeated themselves over and over until they lost their mystery-it seems like the author ran out of ideas 3/4 of the way through. I would not recommend this book if you're looking for a page turner. It lacks intrique, fear for the character and his family. As ruthless as the Tiger/killers were the Cross family would never have been releasede-they would have been killed like the others. So, a story that is hard to believe.

Midnight Club by James Patterson: Good book, different than the other books by James Patterson that I have read.
