You know, one thing I love about Woz is he's still a geek. It's 11:33 p.m. here in Silicon Valley, and he's still fingering his Macintosh. Who said Woz is just a figurehead? I wanna see what he comes up with. After all, he's the guy who engineered my first personal computer. He's also the guy who programmed the game Breakout. That's two massive hits. Can he make it three? I just wish someone would put a mirror on the WozCam so we can look at what's on Steve's screen.

Name any other Silicon Valley or Redmond famous person who has a webcam on them most of the time. Wild. Keep it up Woz! You're still my hero and my inspiration.

Inquiring minds want to know: what is Steve Wozniak's new company "Wheels of Zeus" up to? There's even a "Woz watch" website out there. Hell, maybe I'll get brave one evening and call Steve up and ask him what's going on. He still answers his email very promptly (I reported woz.com was down to him on Sunday night and he promptly kicked the server and got it running again). Maybe we'll call him during halftime at the Super Bowl. I know his cell phone number and he does answer it (he's had the same number for more than 10 years now). The last time I asked Steve what was up, though, (several months ago) he told me he couldn't talk about it. On the other hand, they are looking for a software engineer with SOAP experience (among other things).

I wish I could go to this Seattle weblogger dinner on January 28 that Sam Ruby is planning.

I'm glad I'm not alone. Jeremy Zawodny says he gets freaked out when he learns co-workers read his blog as well. Yeah, it's weird, though. I'm always mouthing off about Microsoft execs and what they should do better. I never figured they'd be reading here. Hey, you Microsoft execs, why don't you start your own weblogs? Hey, Bill already sends me email. Why can't he write a weblog every day or two? We all know he didn't really write that, but imagine if he did? Imagine if he took us on a personal tour of his house? Or, showed us his latest watch prototypes? Or, told us what is his view of the latest political or economic scene? I'm sure it'd instantly be one of the most visited weblogs out there. He might even give Glenn Reynolds a run.

Speaking of which, how does Glenn do it? He posts more often than anyone I know and he has 100,000 visitors a day. Damn. You deserve it dude, awesome job.

I like the new commenting system over at ReadingEd's weblog.

I'm a sucker for sunset photos and Garrett has a beauty! (Thanks Bill Lazar for the link)

Oh, great, now Bill Gates is sending me email. Actually, it's quite weird to receive email from Gates. Hey, you too can read and sign up for emails from him and other Microsoft execs. The latest email was an update on Microsoft's security fixes. At the end he admonishes Microsoft's customers to help by "1) stay up to date on patches, 2) use anti-virus software and keep it up to date with the latest signatures, and 3) use firewalls." Come on Bill, can't we do better than that? If you could get my mom to stop double-clicking on attachments, that'd be a start.

I wish GoogleNews had permalinks. Why? I want to point you at all the NEC Tablet news that was delivered today. Ah, forget it, TabletPCTalk and TabletPCBuzz had better coverage anyway.

We just got our video from our wedding back. Simply awesome. It was shot and edited (on a Mac) by Alvan Donnan. If you're ever getting married and considering South Lake Tahoe, I can't say enough about Advanced Video. They did an absolutely awesome job (they do the video for Harveys Casino). In fact, Harveys overall did a great job. We planned the whole shindig in four months and it came off great. We couldn't be happier. I can't believe that we've been married almost three months already. Where is time going? Anyway, I was skeptical about doing a video. I always thought it would be cheesy. I am so happy I was talked into it now, though. The DVD is awesome. I wish there were an easy way to let you all see it.

My brother says Intuit sucks. Alex: I agree. Copy protection is gonna keep me from using Turbo Tax this year. H&R Block, here I come! Anyone have a tax program they like? Geesh, what, do they want me to move to Microsoft programs for my tax too? Hell, if I'm gonna put up with copy protection, might as well go with them.

Have you ever gotten really freaked out by your weblog? I did, today. A couple of major execs at Microsoft told me they read me. Another one of my co-workers told me they read me too. That's scary. At any time I could blow my career to hell. Oh, I've been there before. Oh, think they are only reading my weblog? Check out Chris Pirillo tonight. He's having dinner with someone from the Internet Explorer/Mac team as we speak!

John Robb says that infrastructure costs is what killed PointCast. Screw that. That's buying into the Poincast spin. Listen, let's go back to 1996, when Pointcast was interesting. That was at the beginning of the Internet bubble. They could have gotten enough cash to last forever. What really killed Pointcast? They tried to lock in their customers. For one, you couldn't copy and paste text. For two, you couldn't tell your friends to visit a specific page. Lame, lame, lame. I uninstalled it after two weeks. It wasn't useful. That's what killed Pointcast. If they had simply gotten rid of these two major stumbling blocks I'd still be using it today (and I probably would have paid for the service -- hell, it was better than AOL in many ways). Lock me in and die.
