Finally took a few minutes to load the swan footage into my Cube. Amsterdam is also where I have my only firewire cable that connects too the sony 'iLink' port, and I used imovie to put two scenes together: first we have footage of one of our 5 black baby swans on one of its first 'solo flights' around our poperty, narrowly clearing the carriage house roof. Then we cut to Patricia, Christina, Luc (our 'outside' guy) and I on the tennis court during a downpour. It must've looked like one of the ponds, with all the water on it, 'cause one of the babies landed pretty hard on the clay court. There was some bleeding, but after checking her over, we carried her to the lake and she's back with the family, with a couple of minor scratches and a bruised ego, if swans have egos.
Observations; swans are very soft and warm to the touch. The neck is a bit eerie to hold, but far less powerful that I've been led to believe.
In about 2 months all the babies will fly away, never to return. The parents, Fred and Ginger, remain with us and will hopefully have 5 or 6 new swans next year.
