Today's news is that there were some inklings that something was up before the September 11 terrorist attack and, by extension, that the Bush administration should have done something about it.
Although I'm a pretty solid liberal democratic and no admirer of Bush or his administration, I hope that Democrats and others go slow on this one. It has the potential to totally blow up in their faces.
As I understand it there are always a lot of vague warnings and rumors about this plot or the other, but few of them are definitive enough to act on. If we acted on every rumor either we'd go crazy trying to keep up or, more likely, no one would take any of the concerns seriously after a while.
While it is probably a good idea to try to understand what we did know, what it meant, and what we might have done about it, it seems very premature to this liberal democrat to start suggesting that Bush somehow failed to protect the American public in this case.
