I saw some good prices on digital cameras in a flier I got from Micro Center yesterday. I have an old Olympus Camedia D-340R, but this is pretty dated now. It does not support USB and it only handles 1.3 megapixel resolution. This is fine for taking informal pictures, especially if they end up on the web, but the quality is not great for printing.
I'm looking at the Nikon CoolPix 885 and the Olympus D-40. The D-40 has 4 megapixel resolution, the ability to use AA batteries, small size, and my familiarity with another Olympus camera going for it. The Nikon has small size, $100 lower price going for it. I don't like the proprietary battery of the Nikon and it has only 3.21 megapixel resolution - though that may be good enough for my purposes.
Both cameras seem to get pretty good reviews online.
