Note to self: The Border's music girl is a cutie. Ask her out if you get a chance.  11:53:07 PM  permalink   Add a comment

A picture named billy.jpgJust back from Borders, where I bought some CDs. As usual, my selections are all over the map:

1) Long Beach Dub All Stars / Wonders of the World

I haven't heard this one yet, but I like their other work. It's mellow, fun, summer music. The All Stars have more musical talent than the former Sublime, but usually lyrics aren't quite as, um, interesting.

2) Various Artists / MGM Soul Cinema, Volume 1

The best (and worst) of the Blaxploitation movie sountracks. James Brown, Quincey Jones, Isaac Hayes, & many more. This one should be fun at work. I'll key Shaft everytime the bossman walks in.

3) Various Artists / Sountrack to the motion picture Big Bad Love

Don't know anything about the movie, but there's lots of great blues on this album: R.L. Burnside, Steve Earle, Kenny Brown, and, oddly enough, Tom Waits.

4) Billy Idol: VH1 Story Tellers

Okay, I admit it. I like Billy Idol. I caught one of his Shows in Portland, OR, last summer and it was a blast. This CD has all his standards. Live, and accoustic.

5) Manu Chao / Clandestino*

Manu Chao is a different kind of latin musician. Unlike Ricky Martin, pr Enrique Inglesias, this CD is smart, edgy, and--Dave Winer will like this--subversive.

I also bought a DVD: Shadow of the Vampire, with John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe. Haven't seen it yet, but everyone says it's great.

*Note to Gary Young: Track 3 from Clandestino--Bongo Bong--is the song I was trying to remember a while back.  10:01:11 PM  permalink   Add a comment

Amazon.com: buying info: All Killer No Filler: "I would rather scoop my eyeballs out and eat them with a smile on my face all the while hearing babies SCREAM because they are on fire than listen to this TERRIBLE album again. Have you ever been stabbed in the face repeatedly with a ice pick? Take that feeling and times it by nine, and you will feel the agony of trying to listen to this god-awful record"

Guess I won't buy that CD.  8:11:22 PM  permalink   Add a comment

What do you suppose my boss would say if I requisitioned one of these?  6:50:08 PM  permalink   Add a comment
