Capek comes back
A Literary Comeback for Karel Capek. New York Times Dec 21 2002 3:07AM ET
Apparently Karel Capek's reputation is on the rise again, which is great news. I read War With the Newts years and years ago; it's a really great satire. Thomas Mann said this "satirical view of the abysmal craziness in Europe has something absolutely magnificent about it, and one suffers this craziness with you in following the story's grotesque and horrible events."
Capek coined the word robot of course, from the Czech word for "drudgery."
