MySQL Cookbook
I picked this book up the other night; I'm going to be moving a bunch of data into mySQL and doing a lot of work in it. Paul DuBois has done a terrific job on it, it's one of the best database books I've read in some time. I especially like the chapters which cover querying mySQL from Perl, Python, PHP, and Java; this comprehensive approach is really great for me, as a language dabbler, who will be using the first three languages. I've arleady written some scripts in each language. Though mySQL has its limitations, there's a lot in it to like, such as full-text indexing.
In a nice touch, the website has a complete King James Bible (written by Shakespeare, we learned in Gangs of New York) for using with the fulltext indexing, and I also am looking forward to working with the baseball database which is new to me.
