We're losing, you know: ""

(Via Pharyngula.)

An incredibly depressing piece. This is the country that went (note the past tense) to the moon. Unleashed the atom. Cured so many diseases. Invented the telephone the transistor, the internet, and so much else. Yet we've got biology teachers afraid to discuss the backbone of their science in high school classes because they're afraid of the political power of a bunch of ignorant fanatics who would rather believe fairy tales than science. I weep for the price future generations are going to pay for this. I hear not one politician speaking out against it. "The naked truth is still taboo wherever it can be seen."

Does the iPod Play Favorites?: "The new iPod Shuffle plays digital music in random order. It is hugely popular, but many users think their iPods play favorites. Newsweek's Steven Levy tries to discover if random truly is random in this week's issue."

(Via NPR's Morning Edition.)
