Even Drudge Can't Resist The Fantastic: "

Our President.

While talking with audience participants, the president met Mary Mornin, a woman in her late fifties who told the president she was a divorced mother of three, including a 'mentally challenged' son.

The President comforted Mornin on the security of social security stating that 'the promises made will be kept by the government.'

But without prompting Mornin began to elaborate on her life circumstances.

Begin transcript:

MS. MORNIN: That's good, because I work three jobs and I feel like I contribute.

THE PRESIDENT: You work three jobs?

MS. MORNIN: Three jobs, yes.

THE PRESIDENT: Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that. (Applause.) Get any sleep? (Laughter.)

PostgreSQL 8.01 on Mac OS X: "Druware has released a Mac OS X installer with additional tools for PostgreSQL 8.01. The developer's web site did not have the latest build - however - you can grab it at Version Tracker.

Similar to what Marc Liyanage has done with MySQL, PHP and other tools for the Mac,..."

UC Berkeley, French Scientists Find Missing Link Between The Whale And Its Closest Relative, The Hippo: "A group of four-footed mammals that flourished worldwide for 40 million years and then died out in the ice ages is the missing link between the whale and its not-so-obvious nearest relative, the hippopotamus."

(Via ScienceDaily Headlines: Fossils & Ruins.)

Ha! This must drive those ID nuts mad: not only is it Berkeley, it's France, too! But seriously, this is a very interesting article, and count on Science Daily to, as usual, write a fairly long story that gives a lot of background on the debate, and why the latest synthesis is interesting and important. Very good science writing.

Yow. Very NSFW, Cooking lesbeans with Madge. If only FoodTV were more like this. More of Madge, and just plain more here.

Joke of the Day - Bush's Light Bulb: "

Q: How many Bush Administration officials does it take to change a light bulb?

A: None. There is nothing wrong with the light bulb. Its conditions are improving every day. Any reports of its lack of incandescence are a delusional spin from the liberal media. That light bulb has served honorably, and anything you say undermines the lighting effect. Why do you hate freedom?

Via Scoble, this link to the very nice SMART Corridors for my part of Alameda County. Real-time displays of traffic density, plus a lot of real-time camers!

They're making a Belgian ale this week on Get Fuzzy. Funny, I brewed my first Belgian ale on Sunday, while the stupor game was on. It's the first time I've heavily modified a recipe, this time from Randy Mosher's Radical Brewing. I kind of followed Mosher, and after all the recipe does call for your own secret ingredients. I may have put in a bit too much orange zest (I used the zest of 2 pretty good sized oranges), and also a tiny bit of powdered chipotle, as well as coriander and grains of paradise; all added for about the last minute of the boil. The zest is really prominent in the taste of the wort and its aroma as it ferments. And it's fermenting like mad, the little airlock bubbling about once every 30 seconds now. The wort turned out to be a higher gravity than I was really aiming at, 1.061 where I was shooting for about 1.055; oh, well, that just means the alcohol content will be higher than I had hoped.
