James Brown: Feeling Good: "James Brown is also known as the Godfather of Soul and the Hardest Working Man in Show Business, among other titles. The 71-year-old singer is still touring, despite having prostate surgery in December. He's written a new memoir, James Brown: I Feel Good."

Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot Barleywine is around in some stores now (I found it in Safeway for $8.99 a sixpack). If you like beer at all -- especially big, bitter, tasty beers -- or suspect that you do, you should go out right now and try to find some of this amazing stuff. It's a 9.6% ABV (alcohol by volume), hoppy, malty stuff with a taste that lingers wonderfully, and a punch that hits quickly. A half a bottle is just fine, so split it with a friend. Alas, I just had a whole bottle and what a great feeling it is. Buy a couple sixpacks and put some up, it'll get better as time goes by. This may be the best beer I've ever tasted.

Christians Voting with the Rich: "
Mark McEntire looks at the election numbers:
--Persons who say they attend church more than weekly: Bush 64 percent, Kerry 35 percent.
--Persons whose annual income is greater than $200,000: Bush 64 percent, Kerry 35 percent.
--Persons whose annual income is less than $15,000: Bush 36 percent, Kerry 63 percent.
----
These numbers are so stunning that it takes a moment to recognize what they are saying. It is apparent that there has been a major shift in the identity of the church, and it is difficult to imagine a more searing indictment of Christianity in America.

Cool Hand Bak has the details on the upcoming Bob Dylan/Merle Haggard tour, but not yet the Paramount Oakland shows. These shows, at $66 are a bit steep, so I'm not sure yet whether I'll see all 3 or not. But probably. I'm not as excited about the shows as Bak seems to be -- a 3-headed show means fewer songs from Bob, which means an over-abundance of greatest hits, usually. I am looking forward to the duets, though. Bob's version of Sing Me Back Home is stellar.
