Yeah, don't we all. From Atrios: "But," he added, "I think it's also important for me to go on with my life, to keep a balanced life." Remember, it's hard work.

A fascinating piece about the mercenaries, er "private security companies" that are in Iraq. No one really knows how many there are, probably about 25,000 aremed men, in addition to "some 50,000 to 70,000 unarmed civilians working for American interests in Iraq, the largest percentage by way of Halliburton and its subsidiaries, doing everything from servicing warplanes to driving food trucks to washing dishes." The article doesn't, strangely, address the question of how many non-military personnel have been killed in Iraq. Certainly some of those private contractors have been killed, and since the Pentagon is not telling us how many there are, it seems to be a hidden number (among so many others) in this war. Does it add another 200, 500, 1,000?

LIKE the Japanese soldier marooned on an island for years after V-J Day, President Bush may be the last person in the country to learn that for Americans, if not Iraqis, the war in Iraq is over. "We will stay the course," he insistently tells us from his Texas ranch. What do you mean we, white man?

The Bush administration sells its policies by misrepresenting its goals, lying about the facts and abusing its control of government agencies.
