U.S. Warns Americans to Avoid Israel. The State Department, citing a "deteriorating security situation," warned Americans on Tuesday to defer travel to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza and said dependents of American diplomats in Jerusalem were being encouraged to go home. [AP World News]

"There are terrorist activities, we see them every day," Powell said, referring to suicide bombings in Israel. "But Chairman Arafat is the head of the Palestinian Authority (news - web sites), an organization we help create," and has been working within the process.

Or to put it less delicately, the US can't admit that Arafat is a terrorist because that would make the US government a terrorist-supporting organization and that would be a bit embarassing just now. The whole thing reminds me of the way the government and media has studiously avoided any recent mention of the fact that the Taliban was created and controlled by Pakistan.

Israel's War. Historian Efraim Karsh provides some further insight into the nature of the Israel-Arab war in this month's issue of Commentary:

For several years now, virtually the entire Palestinian population of the West Bank and Gaza has been under the hegemony of the Palestinian Authority, and no one in authority in Israel desires to reoccupy those territories or to reassert rule over them. The conflict, rather, is with a ruthless and militant leadership that has itself always viewed "armed struggle" as its primary political instrument-if not its raison d'tre-and that has no compunction about using its own people as pawns in the pursuit of extremist and uncompromising goals.

This article is a must read. [Counterpoint]

Liz Michael for United States Senator. Liz Michael for United States Senator from Arizona in 2004.
I urge all Arizonans to support me, regardless of party affiliation. After all, there are really only two parties, Patriots and Traitors. Right now, Traitors are in solid control of the Congress. I would like to do my small part to change that.

But you don't have to live in Arizona to support me. Regardless of where you live in the country, you can donate the the Liz Michael for U. S. Senate exploratory committee.
[End the War on Freedom]

Ms. Michael's site has a very lengthy issues section which addresses her personal beliefs and what she would do if elected. This is by far the longest and most meaningful discussion of issues I have seen on any politician's web site, and it worth reading regardless of where you live.
