I recently purchased a new pocket knife, which came with a slip of paper warning me that the knife was sharp and should be used with care. No kidding!

This reminds me of a list of other absurd legalistic product warnings I found a while back.

Give Dueling a Chance. Lew Rockwell at LewRockwell.com - Give Dueling a Chance - Iraq's VP made a great proposal. Instead of going to war and killing off lots of civilians on both sides, settle it with a duel between the leaders. Yes! [smith2004]
Choose your weapons, fellas, and leave us out of it.
[End the War on Freedom]

An editorial on the Iraqi duel proposal.

Hotel drug sweep surprises drug treatment experts. "It was a scary thing to wake up to," Boyd-Young recalled. "They asked if they could come in, and I didn't know what to do. They had a big dog in front of me."

She said the officers told her they routinely patrol the hallways of local hotels, with the hotel's permission, and their drug-sniffing canine had shown an interest when they passed by her room. [Yahoo! News]

I'm not sure which is more disgusting--that the police do things like this, or that hotels collaborate with them. It's important to remember that a hotel room has the same legal standing as your home--the police can't search it without a warrant. If I ever encountered this situation, I'd tell the cops to get lost, then complain to the hotel management, demand my money back, and move to a hotel that remembers what country it's in.

The Python Cookbook [Slashdot]

Based on the review, this looks like a worthwhile purchase. I'm interested in learning Python, and "cookbook" type books are good for those of us who aren't smart enough to figure out solutions on our own.

Low-intensity terrorism (in gun free zones). The terrorists began looking for other methods. The suicide bombing attack is a method that works in a country where armed citizens are everywhere. There are no undefended schools in Israel. There are no undefended synagogues. There are no undefended buses or plazas or cafes or discotheques. Armed civilians are everywhere.

This has not been true in America for a long time. America long ago caved in to the political pressure to disarm. Now there are entire cities -- including the nation's capital -- where it is illegal to carry a firearm. This was supposedly a plan to make people safer. Of course, it has not. Crime -- especially violent crime -- is rampant in the very cities and states that have the most restrictive gun-control policies. [FirearmNews.com]

This situation suits the government just fine. Everytime someone is killed by criminals or terrorists our masters use that as an excuse to take away a little more of our freedom, with the eager agreement of people who have been brainwashed to believe that only the government can "protect" us. Americans haven't just set the fox to guard the henhouse, we've allowed the fox to trick us into believe that only a fox can guard a henhouse!
