Champ Cup Stacker
Amazing cup-stacking video. Mind-croggling video of a champeen cup-stacker -- this girl stacks cups so quickly, she appears to be in a speeded up, demented Little Rascals clip. As Higgins sez, it's "mesmerizing."

Switch Ads are Brilliant... and Cheap!
Apple is basically going to get hundreds of people to make Switch ads for them (for free!), and will run them on TV thru next summer (and archive them online forever!). Die-hard Apple fans have been complaining for years about Apple's poor outreach to non-Mac users, so now Apple is literally turning over the outreach marketing to the fans. The latest crop of switch ads delves down into things like digital cameras, a photo books.

The de-stigmatization has begun!

Office Commodity
Business Week (2002-09-16) has an article on Jeff Raikes at Microsoft, who's taking back Office and moving it forward. Interesting that this article should appear within a week of news that HP is moving to other office products. The M$ monopoly is faultered by the weighty court battles, poor public relations, and open source developments aimed at limiting their control. Hopefully, the net result of all this will be that MS focuses on quality solutions, and I look forward to the next version of MS Office.

professional weblog software
How long before we see Adobe, Macromedia, or Apple buy/release a weblog application? Seriously, this space is so raw, so ready to explode, but the tools SUCK! Sorry to Dave, and Bloxsum, and all the others, but seriously, i spend more friggin time getting my blog to work, that I totally lose my train of thought. If writing with pencil and paper were as buggy and distracting, we'd never write anything down!

What would a kick ass weblog app look like?

First, it would be totally platform-specific. That is, just like Photoshop is Photoshop, its very much either Photoshop Windows or Photoshop Mac, and we still prefer our platforms.

My ideal weblog app would be a full-blown Mac OS X desktop application, first and foremost. But it would also need a strong client under Windows as well. Java and Swing are sounding interesting on the client side, while JSP+Struts+Torque on the server side.

next, it would need to know how to handle multimedia files WITH EASE. Drag and drop multimedia integration, via QuickTime for Java.

WYSIWYG, with built-in web GUI to wrap around audio and video moviesL: so you can know that visitors to your website will be able to listen to and see your movies with ease.

XML-based, for many future applications...
