Dave Winer - Job For John
Dave Winer points to an the website for an umemployed software developer starting his own protest movement:
Job For John: "Last Thursday, July 24th I was downsized from my job of 3 years at a software company. Later the same day I heard that President Bush's economic team would be doing a bus tour through Wisconsin and Minnesota this week touting Bush's tax cut and its prosperous economic effects. 'What a bunch of BS. I'd like to give their PR tour a dose of reality,' is what I thought. So I packed up the minivan and decided to follow their bus around the countryside and talk to whoever would listen about the real facts -- that this economy stinks, and Bush's tax cuts are making it worse." 2004 Presidential Election
The Daily Kos has a link to the latest Des Moines Register poll for candidates seeking the Democratic Party's nomination.
In other news. Howard Dean is on the cover of today's Time Magazine, and also on Newsweek Magazine, largely due to his campaign's application of web technologies to the election. Coyote Gulch predicted that weblogs and web technologies would start to effect the political process in a big way in 2003. I tried to get candidates in the 2003 Municipal Election to start a weblog. One did, but she didn't make it to the ballot. I still haven't heard from any campaign wanting to pay the big bucks. Says Newsweek, "KEVIN O'CONNOR, A 53-year-old investment banker, went to Denver's first gathering of Dean supporters in early February at a small downtown coffee shop, drawn by a posting on Meetup.com. Eight people showed. Now the group has to keep changing the venue to fit the 100-plus people who turn out every month, one of more than 600 Dean 'Meetups' across the country."
