2004 Presidential Election

Here's an analysis of the primary selection process along with candidate issues and strategies for next spring from the Denver Post, [August 19, 2003, "Three acts bring drama to primaries"] From the article, "No doubt they had good reasons. But the grim truth is that Colorado's political leaders have stiffed the state's political junkies by putting its delegate selection process at the tail end of the presidential primary calendar. Not so our neighbors to the south, where Arizona and New Mexico and Oklahoma are bidding to be players in the naming of the Democratic presidential nominee. They have given the West, and especially its Hispanic voters, a piece of the action."

November 2003 Ballot

Update: Here's a link to Dave Cullen's take on George Will and the peacefulness stuff. I'm starting to hope that it passes.

Sheesh! Charlie Brown needs to chill a bit, seek some inner peacefulness, practice a little stress reduction. Brown and Linkhart were the only council members to speak about the bill that will go to voters November 4th according to the Rocky Mountain News [August 18, 2003, "'Peacefulness' ballot proposal still pushes councilman's buttons"]. My take is that the voters will not vote for it. There's not that much hopefullness out there.

Denver Charter Changes for the November 2003 Ballot

It was smooth sailing for the Charter Amendment to remove the annual salary survey for City employees and place it in ordinance. City Council voted 13-0 to move it forward according to the Rocky Mountain News [August 19, 2003, "Council supports city pay proposal"]. From the article, "Mayor John Hickenlooper won a key battle Monday night in his bid to overhaul Denver's personnel system when a unanimous City Council moved his plan one step closer to the Nov. 4 ballot." Here's the coverage from the Denver Post [August 19, 2003, "Council gives initial OK to new city pay plan"].

I think the Rocky is being a bit dramatic calling it a battle. I went to most of the public hearings and they were civil for the most part. Council came into the picture prepared to pass an ordinance. The voters will overwhelmingly pass the amendment on November 4th.
