2004 Presidential Election

Here's the latest Zogby Tracking polls for South Carolina, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arizona.

President Bush is sending a $2.4 trillion dollar election year budget to Congress that promises to lead to much discussion. From the article, "Already members of both parties say they are bracing for a bitter fight over Bush's tax and spending priorities, and many question whether any agreement can be reached. Democrats scoffed at Bush's plan to stem the red ink while asking Congress to make permanent his tax cuts...Government spending under Bush has grown at the fastest pace since the Johnson administration of the mid-1960s, conservatives complain. While the Pentagon would get 7 percent more and homeland security a nearly 10 percent increase, more than 60 government programs are expected to face cuts under Bush's plan."

Here are some poll numbers from Zogby International from the Daily Kos.

Here's a CBS News poll for South Carolina on the Presidential race. Thanks to a Curious Stranger for the link.

Denver November 2004 Election

Ben Nighthorse Campbell is having an easy time collecting dough for his re-election bid in the fourth quarter of last year, according to the Denver Post [January 30, 2004, "Campbell raises $565,953 in 4th quarter"].

Wired: "But to those who troll the blogosphere and who lauded Howard Dean's campaign (if not his candidacy), the reports of the death of Internet politics look premature. Just as the death of Pets.com and a hundred other startups did not destroy the World Wide Web, Howard Dean's failure to sweep Iowa and New Hampshire has not wiped the Web clean of politics. For a start, all the other candidates, following Dean's lead, still have campaign blogs. John Kerry, now the front-runner after wins in Iowa and New Hampshire, has raised more than $1.6 million online since his win in Iowa on Jan. 19."

Update: From e-mail from the Rocky Mountain News: "Former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb today turned aside Democratic pleas to challenge Republican Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell this fall."

Colorado Water

The U.S. Forest Service has a new plan that will end any chance of building Two Forks Reservoir, according to the Denver Post [February 2, 2004, "Feds' plan champions South Platte"]. The troubled dam plan had been opposed by most Denver residents and was denied a Federal Clean Water permit in the past. There had been rumblings about resurrecting the project to add more Front Range water storage since the current drought and to help accomodate the Colorado's burgeoning population.
