Colorado Water

Here's an article on Colorado's water supply from the Rocky Mountain News [September 1, 2004, "Water on tap through 2030"]. From the article, "Colorado cities say they can supply nearly 90 percent of the water newcomers will need by 2030, but it all depends on their ability to dry up farms, recycle existing supplies and build new water projects, according to the preliminary findings of a new state water study. Even as the current drought eases, however, serious future shortages could develop if cities aren't successful in their quests for new water, said Rick Brown, project manager for the Statewide Water Supply Initiative, as the study is known." Bluegrass instead of corn. Bummer.

2004 Presidential Election

Coyote Gulch apologizes for the reduced coverage of the election this week. Although the full knee-replacement went well, I haven't regained my strength yet and the fog of pain-killers is still upon me.

Electoral-vote.com: "A new poll in Missouri has Bush still ahead in this critical state. His lead is 49% to 45%. His lead in Texas is a whopping 24%."

Here's the coverage of President Bush's acceptance speech from the Rocky Mountain News [September 3, 2004, "Bush promises a brighter tomorrow"].

Dick Cheney and Zell Miller made several charges against Senator Kerry's voting record this week. Here's a Washington Post article on the subject.

Taegan Goddard: "The latest Zogby America Poll shows President Bush leading Sen. John Kerry, 46% to 44%. Says pollster John Zogby: 'The President has had a very good convention following a good week where he also dominated the news with his own message: leadership, strength, decisiveness. Not only has he dominated the news but he also has thrown Kerry off his game.' However, while Bush 'has improved his numbers, he still has a negative re-elect, job performance, and wrong direction.'"

TalkLeft looks at a word count of the President's speech.

Blogs for Bush: "He rose to the occasion and did just about everything right. Not saying it was a speech for the centuries, but he laid out his domestic agenda."

Opinions You Should Have: "Cheney rallies delegates with unique campaign slogan." Warning: vulgar language.

Russell Beattie: "Give in to your hate." Mr. Beattie posts photos of Zell Miller and Dick Cheney from Wednesday's edition of the RNC.

Daily Kos: "For the first time since the Presidential race became a two person contest last spring, there is a clear leader, the latest TIME poll shows. If the 2004 election for President were held today, 52% of likely voters surveyed would vote for President George W. Bush, 41% would vote for Democratic nominee John Kerry, and 3% would vote for Ralph Nader, according to a new TIME poll conducted from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2."

Denver November2004 Election

Neither Ken Salazar nor Peter Coors served in Vietnam, according to the Rocky Mountain News [August 31, 2004, "War offered lesson for Senate candidates"]. From the article, "By the time Salazar was an 18-year-old freshman at Colorado College in 1973, the draft had ended. Coors signed up for the Colorado Air National Guard in 1969, the year he graduated from Cornell University, but was turned away because of a kidney problem. He went to graduate school at the University of Denver, instead. Both candidates for Colorado's open U.S. Senate seat say they have an understanding of the storm that tore the nation apart then - and has re-emerged in the 2004 presidential race. Both say Vietnam had lessons that will guide them if they have to vote on issues of war and peace."
