Colorado Politics

Here's a website that I missed, Dem Notes written by State Democratic Party Secretary Dan Slater. The latest post looks into the fallout from the DeLay rule. Permalinks are working for some posts but not January 7th. Here's the RSS URL: http://www.demnotes.com/index.rdf

A picture named denver2doloressmall.jpgJustice Center Meeting

From email from Councilwoman Marcia Johnson:

"Councilwoman Marcia Johnson will host a Community Meeting January 19th at 7 p.m. regardi ng the proposed Justice Center.  Please do join us for the discussion at 6740 E. Colfax Avenue."

"Project Manager James Mejia will be in attendance to present the plan, outline the costs/benefits, and will answer our questions."

"The proposed new Justice Center continues to be a hot topic. One of the issues is the location of the juvenile courts. The neighbors in the Golden Triangle district have expressed a strong desire to put the juvenile courts in a new courthouse, as opposed to leaving them at the City and County building. This would cost an extra $25 million, according to project manager James Mejia."

"February will be an important month for City Council approvals regarding the Justice Center. The proposal will be introduced on first reading on February 7, and on second reading on February 14. A request for a public hearing is also anticipated. If passed, the proposal will go to the voters on May 3."

Councilwoman Johnson is doing a great job getting information to her constituents.

2004 Presidential Transition

Colorado Luis: "This should be a wakeup call to progressive Chicanos that the groups that claim to represent us have been thoroughlly compromised by the activist conservative faction within.  The only hopeful thing I can see about this is there can be only one 'first Latino Attorney General,' so this particular game is one that can't be played forever."

2008 Presidential Election

Taegan Goddard: "Knight Ridder writes the the help wanted ad for Democrats: 'Political party with self-esteem problem seeks inspiring, tech-savvy leader who can sell a message and raise big bucks. Must be able to shine on the Sunday TV talk shows. Must have the brain of Karl Rove and the stomach for party banquets. Must be willing to take the blame if the party keeps losing.'"

Hmmm..."inspiring, tech-savvy". Email me at jworr@operamail.com.

Colorado Water

Recent snowfall is building hopes that the drought is easing in the Colorado River Basin, according to this short article from the Denver Post [January 9, 2005, "Snowfall lifts forecasters' hopes for Colorado River"]. From the article, "Forecasters now predict the river will receive 98 percent of its normal amount of water this year, in part because of a good start to the winter storm season."

Denver November 2004 Election

Here's a look at Citizen Initiatives from the Denver Post [January 9, 2005, "Citizens amend political reality"]. From the article, "Colorado has become one of the most activist states in the country in using citizen-sponsored initiatives to create laws, complicating the work of lawmakers who convene in Denver this week. While state legislators across the country wield great power over the lives of the citizens they represent, Colorado's leaders must sometimes yield to the citizens' ability to write laws and constitutional amendments."
