And what does God say? -
"The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt..." Lev 19:34
"You are to have the same law for the alien and the native-born..." Lev 24:22
"The community is to have the same rules for you and for the alien living among you; this is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. You and the alien shall be the same before the Lord." Num 15:15
Interesting isn't it, that God commanded the Israelites to treat aliens (or refugees/non-Israelites living among them) with equality - why: becasue they too were aliens! Isn't that a little like the entire population of Australia, including the Aboriginals.
Hmmmmm. Something to think about.

Another angle - I always appreciate a question or a line of reasoning that comes from another direction - like this one appearing in the letters page of todays Australian:
Let's put the question another way REGARDING the PM's assertions that he and his ministers were not informed about the true situation of the "boatpeople", I would like to ask this question: During the election campaign, did you, or any of your advisers, instruct any person not to tell you anything?
It is one thing to say you weren't told, but it is quite another to instruct people not to tell you. Robert Philp, Bicton, WA

Xenophobia? - The letter appears in the SMH today:
So they didn't throw the children overboard. They just sank their own boat so that everyone ended up in the water, children included. Is there really any difference? Les Moore, Nelson Bay, February 18.

Here we go - Why is it that whenever there is a slow news day, or some whacky new idea emerges from the depths of some bozo's pizza and beer induced nausea we all have to have our nervous systems overloaded with the drivel.
It seems that the mysterious and yet entirely manufactured concept of "El Niño" has raised it's fallacious head again. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that "El Niño threatens to steal the rain, again"
Interesting isn't it - this report coming in the middle of two weeks of nearly solid rain...
