Infoworld, 10/9/02: ITxpo: Ballmer to unveil plans for new Office app

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. -- During his keynote address on Wednesday at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo conference here, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is expected to unveil plans for developing a new desktop application, code-named XDocs, that promises to streamline the cumbersome process of gathering and distributing data from multiple sources.
Scheduled for delivery in mid-2003 and expected to be a member of the Office family, XDocs can be integrated with a large number of business processes because it can support user-defined XML schemas that can be integrated with XML Web services. By so doing, Microsoft hopes to provide users with another way to reuse corporate data and improve information flow.

ANAHEIM, CALIF. -- Sketching the rough details of its vision for a connected business environment around Web services, Microsoft revealed a new e-business server project, code-name Jupiter, and gave more details around its vision for real-time computing in the enterprise.
Speaking here at the Microsoft Exchange Conference, Paul Flessner, senior vice president of the .Net Enterprise Server Group, extolled the value of a connected business, directly linking lower TCO and higher revenue and productivity with the ability to connect applications, systems, customers, and partners.

Wall Street Journal, 10/9/02: Barrett Says Intel Will Soon Offer Wireless Networking for Laptops

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Intel Corp. Chief Executive Craig Barrett said Tuesday that a wireless networking feature will be a standard in Intel-powered laptops early next year.
Intel's 802.11 B/A dual wireless-networking feature will be found in laptops in the first quarter, with desktop computers shortly thereafter, Mr. Barrett said at Gartner's Symposium ITXPO.
