MacOS X includes traditional Unix mail handling software that is perfect for filtering spam, it’s already installed and merely needs to be configured and activated. Mail.app was recently upgraded to permit access to Unix internal mailboxes, now we can bring the power of Unix mail processing and filtering to this standard Mac application.” [mac.scripting.com]

Why conductors have great sex , Norman Lebrecht, 4/17/2002 [La Scena Musicale - News]'Compare the sterile functionality of rock sex to the standard chat-up line of an orchestral conductor who, meeting a young lovely before going on stage, whispers that he is about to perform the Pathètique "just for you". It seldom fails. Conductors have the liveliest, longest and most rewarding sex lives of any human organism.'
A highly entertaining and informative article. Maybe they should talk more about this kind of stuff on the classical music radio stations.

U.S. bomb kills 4 Canadian soldiersTHE ACCIDENT appears to have occurred because the pilot of the U.S. jet, one of two Air National Guard F-16s in the area at the time, didn[base ']t know he was flying over an area restricted for training [~] and so fire from the training exercise made him believe he was under attack, officials at the Pentagon told the Associated Press.

Errant US Bomb Kills Canadian Troops 'An American fighter jet mistakenly dropped at least one laser-guided bomb on Canadian forces in Afghanistan during a live-fire training exercise Wednesday. Canadian officials said four soldiers were killed and eight were injured.'

Dissonance in Montreal After Rare Orchestral Uprising. Players in the Montreal Symphony Orchestra issued a statement last week that accused their music director, Charles Dutoit, of treating them like "battered spouses." By Clifford Krauss. [New York Times: Arts] 'Before the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, under a guest conductor, Alexandre Vedernikov, played a note of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 2 Tuesday night, a single loud boo rang out from the audience. CNN.com - 'Friendly fire' incident kills 4 Canadian soldiers - April 18, 2002 'KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Four Canadian soldiers were killed and eight wounded near Kandahar on Thursday when a U.S. F-16 dropped at least one 500-pound laser-guided bomb on them during a training mission, according to U.S. and Canadian military officials.'
It's not the top story at CNN, but it is on the front page. And just this moment I saw it presented as the third or fourth story on their Headline News channel. The wording is very tepid.

.< 2:27:19 AM >

The Globe and Mail: Four Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan : "Sources said Wednesday that Canadian and American officials were baffled by the colossal blunder."

.< 2:15:58 AM >

I finally see a scrolling box on CNN mentioning the bombing. Haven't seen anyone talk about it yet. Must check out the news websites.

.< 1:21:00 AM >

CBC News: Canadian soldiers dead in Afghanistan: "Henault called the deaths the first loss of Canadian lives in an offensive operation since the Korean War in the 1950's. "
Trigger happy American's? Gosh that's not a nice thing to say, is it?

Is the pro-Israel media lobby losing its grip?. Polls show that the American public increasingly sees two sides to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict -- despite the best efforts of the neoconservative punditocracy. [Salon.com]
Watching CBC television's reports from Israel the last two nights it's very difficult to understand how the Israelis can actually look themselves in the mirror. The double-speak is unbelievable. They twist words in the most unbelievable ways.

.< 1:03:48 AM >

Finally, CBC Newsworld has the story at the top of the hour. Four dead, eight injured, two with life-threatening injuries.

F-16 dropped a bomb on a known training area. "How this sort of thing can happen is a mystery to us." The military spokesman sounds quite shaken.

Bush called Chrétien with his condolences and offers of cooperation in the investigation.

.< 12:56:08 AM >

Bush's Latin diplomacy goes south. The White House is embarrassed after the State Department's Latin American specialist pointedly fails to condemn the Venezuela coup -- and the coup then collapses. [Salon.com]

Morally bankrupt administration strikes again.

.< 12:54:28 AM >

Yeah, I know it was an accident. Yeah, I know this is war.

But I think war is wrong. Now do you know why I'm pissed?!

.< 12:51:37 AM >

I'm trying to find more info on the deaths of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. I'm flipping around the television. Nothing on Newsworld (CBC's 24 hour news station). Nothing on CNN's headline news. They have an air-head talking about how the Brits have found evidence of the bad guys returning. Nothing about Americans dropping bombs on Canadians.
