The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America released the final ballot of the Nebula awards today. Just like the Academy Awards, whose nominations were also released today, the Nebulas are the high recognition one can receive by their peers, in this case science fiction and fantasy writers.

By contrast the Science Fiction Achievement Awards or Hugo Awards, awarded by the people attending the annual World Science Fiction Convention will be chosen by fans such as myself.

Any novels or stories do you suggest I read before the Hugo nominations are due?

Slate.com asks its readers to speculate on what the twist ending (to the viewers – not the suitors) to Joe Millionaire may be. Some of my ideas:

  • If the chosen women agrees to marry him even after the original surprise that he’s not wealthy is revealed, Fox TV will give Evan Marriott money if he agrees not to marry her. Then to make it more surprising, if he picks love over money, they can give him the money anyway as a happy ending.
  • Or for a somewhat happy ending, the same as above, but if Evan decides to go for money but not love, they give the money to the woman he just dumped.
  • If once the surprise known to the viewers (he is not rich) is revealed and the woman wants to still marry Evan, Fox TV can offer the woman money to not marry him. Again the opportunity for a triple surprise of still giving her the money if she picks love over money or giving it to Evan if she does not exists.

A writer in Slate.com points to Subway as an example of the nutritious brand name fast food that high school cafeterias could serve instead of the current alternatives of poorly accepted nutritious foods or unhealthy foods that students like.

While it could be that this article is the result of watching too many Jared the ex-fat guy Subway commercials, I think this could work. In the mid-90s The University of Western Ontario dropped their cafeteria style food in favor of brand names like Mr. Sub. The result it was much better food and selection.
