Victory for W3C, Microsoft, IE Users, Plugin Authors

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has reversed itself and rejected the Eolas Technologies patent on web browser plugins thereby setting up a dismissal of a $521 million jury verdict against Microsoft for infringing the now void patent with Internet Explorer. The reversal also will prevent the need to change Internet Explorer to avoid the patent in the future.

Eolas will appeal the patent reversal and the dismissal of the $521 million verdict is not automatic.
