Colombia Rebels Condemn New U.S. Aid. The Bush administration's plan to help Colombia protect an oil pipeline from guerrilla attacks proves that Washington wants to intervene militarily in this country's civil war, a rebel leader said Wednesday. [AP World News]
Now let's get this straight: On the one side we have the baddies: Iran, Iraq, North Korea; on the other are the goodies: the Colombian government (or just that pipeline?), the Israelis. Have I got that right?

Powell: Iraq Needs 'Regime Change'. Secretary of State Colin Powell told members of Congress Wednesday that there must be a "regime change" in Iraq and he suggested that the United States "might have to do it alone." [AP World News]
So, the US never learns, is that it? Meddling in the affairs of other countries has consistently led to nothing but problems down the line -- the situation in Afghanistan being a notable example. The old dictum 'my enemy's enemy is my friend' backfired big-time with the Taliban, didn't it?
And, of course there's this oh-so-convenient double standard approach which is so popular in Washington: Iraq must abide by UN resolutions, but it's perfectly all right for the US to withhold its contributions to the same organisation.
