Freaky leaks. Reuters reports the NSA heard a message "tomorrow is zero day" on September 10. They quote an unnamed source as saying that's no smoking gun. Duh.

Reuters doesn't mention the NSA intercepted Bin Laden telling his mum something big was going down, and she wouldn't be hearing from him for a while. *That's a smoking gun.*

How stupid do you have to be not to translate Bin Laden's phonecalls? How stupid do you have to be not to go on alert? Unless, of course, you *want* terrorists to strike, in order to seize more power, end civil liberties, etc.

LaunchDaveWiner.org announces a fundraising drive to launch Dave Winer into orbit.

"The tourist seat on the October Soyuz launch is still available to take someone to the International Space Station," said spokesperson Leonard Nimoy. "We want to put Dave Winer on it."

It's a win-win situation. Dave's friends can't wait for the live blogging from the heavens. (Assuming 802.11b works in zero gravity.) Countless more people are excited to get Dave off the planet. ("One less mouth to feed down here" said one certified grump.)

Russian Cosmonaut and Space Station commander Valery Korzun had (jokingly) hoped for a supermodel, but American astronaut and crew member Peggy Whitson said, "Have you seen Dave's application photo -- the one in the speedo? Hubba, hubba!"

For his part, Dave promises to weigh the same as a supermodel while in orbit. ("But will he have the nice perfume?" asked Korzun wryly.)

Donations are being taken via PayPal at the LaunchDaveWiner.org website. Donations may be flagged as "I want to help Dave get *really* high," or "I want Dave off the planet, ASAP."

Does anyone really think that increasing repression of West Bank Palestinians will stop the suicide bombings? I didn't think so.

So do you want settlements, or do you want your son or daughter to live?

People seem to have forgotten that there was a time -- not long ago -- when there was very little violence. It was a time when there was apparent progress toward peace. Arafat didn't prevent all violence, but do you remember that weeks would go by with no suicide bombers? People walked down streets and sat in cafes without fear.

Everybody knows peace would be easy to make right now. No need for interim solutions or "partners". Just fucking do it. But Sharon would rather have our children blown to pieces than give up the settlements, and I guess a lot of Israelis agree. I guess more children will die.
