It's my impression that in political campaign terminology, "vetted" implies not just examination, but "passing marks". And when, say, Vice President Cheney vetted all of the candidates for Bush's running mate, that meant going through their dirty secrets, and judging the political risk level.
So when Bush says his securities fraud was fully vetted, does he mean that the top Republican fatcats agreed that it wouldn't be enough to bring them all down?
I ask, because it sure sounded like Bush's response meant: "You aren't supposed to ask this question, and even if you do, nobody cares what you think."

"The easiest and best way to avoid civilian casualties is to avoid firing at coalition forces in the proximity of innocent civilians," said US spokesman Colonel Roger King.
This is why Bush has to hide from war crimes laws.
"There should be more blood," the [US military]investigators repeatedly said, according to reports. "Where are the bodies?"
"Victims continued to arrive at Kandahar's main hospital yesterday - around 40 had made it, including 14 children, but some claimed that Afghan and US forces had tried to block the roads to stop them getting to hospital."
The way to handle mass murder cover-ups is to prevent surviving victims from reaching a hospital. Is this really the meaning of patriotism, and what we celebrate today?
Let's stop this bullshit, and go back to being an example of freedom, democracy, tolerance, and helping the less fortunate.
There's hope, of course: we celebrate casting off one psycho George. Let's do it again.
