"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

"As long as they're hitting you on Enron, they're not hitting me. That's your job," said Bush.

[11:24:28 AM]
That's: "...one nation, under Surveillance, ..."

Most remarkable [scoop.co.nz]. Turns out the guy who was supposed to investigate Bush's stock fraud had been Bush's personal lawyer. (Bring us their heads!)

I saw George Lucas last Wednesday at the Stanford Theater. The theater was sold out for a silent movie. It's one of those old-fashioned HUGE theaters, and it was sold out for a silent movie. I got the last popcorn before they ran out, and then I got the last seat in the house, next to George.

After the first show of the double feature, George took out a slide rule, and calculated with gusto. (Watch the elbows when you use that thing, George.) After I took an elbow in the ribs a second time, I asked him what he was so excited about.

"None of the actors have speaking roles." I guess the rate for actors with no lines is a lot lower than the usual rates for stars. I don't know if he'll stick to it, but George *swore* his next film would be silent.
