News -- Ten confounding cosmic questions:
http://www.space.com/spacewatch/confounding_questions_021025-1.html
Comment -- Space.com has this question-and-answer list that's kind of
entertaining, in a spacey sort of way. For example, it answers the question
"why isn't the North Star the brightest star in the sky?" That's exactly the
kind of question I've heard at public star parties.
News -- Here's a cartoon about modern flying and missile launches:

Comment -- It's so scary that you have to joke about it. You may recall that
the Kenya terrorists attacks apparently included the launching of a
shoulder-mounted surface-to-air missile at an Israeli airliner. It missed.
It seems to me that if it were easy to shoot down airliners with portable
missiles, we would have seen it happening more often. The missiles are heat
seekers designed to take out single or twin-engine attack jets. Maybe
hitting the engine of an airliner would not be an automatic disaster. After
all, airliners are designed to fly just fine on one engine. Of course,
that's assuming debris from the explosion does not bring the jet down.
