News - We're back from our Jan. 1-5 trip to San Francisco and we had a
great time. Partly sunny every day and temperatures in the 50s and 60s.
Comment - This week I'll tell you about some of the highlights. I'll also
post some of my photos.
On Thursday we made our first trip ever to the Sonoma Valley wine region,
just west of Napa Valley (http://www.danheller.com/sonoma.html). With its
collection of stores and restaurants, the town of Sonoma reminded us of
Petoskey. We had lunch at a small French bakery and I had one of their
specialty sandwiches: Prosciutto ham and Brie cheese in a baguette
roll...with butter!. Man, was that ever delicious! But I'm sure it was about
1,000 calories and 100 grams of fat.
Another great stop was the Viansa Winery and Italian Marketplace
(http://www.viansa.com/). They had over 100 jams, jellies, topping, mustards
and marinades available to sample. Anything you can think of to put on a
cracker or pretzel, they had a jar of. We circled the displays like starving
vultures around fresh road kill. Yum!
The only unpleasant part of the trip was the pollen. It gave Vanessa and I a
tough time (I guess Jennifer is lucky enough to be immune.) I see on the
Weather Underground Web site that tree pollens were the culprit. Thankfully,
the pollen problems seem to have disappeared upon return to snowy Michigan.
