News - This guy from Public Broadcasting System seems to have a pretty good
track record in predicting where technology is going. His views on 2003:

Comment - I was interested in this prediction: "Hollywood will come up
with another new copy protection scheme for music and it will be defeated
within two months. Even more significant is the fact that 2003 will see a
whole new generation of peer-to-peer file sharing software. Remember,
Napster required a central server and Gnutella replaces that with a zillion
individual PCs, but this next generation will probably be some form of swarm
computing -- a distributed network file system that will chop up the music
into a hundred pieces each stored on a different participating PC. So when
the RIAA confiscates your computer, they won't be able to find anything
stored on it resembling music."
Another interesting prediction is that China will eventually be the largest
computer maker in the world.
News - Spartan basketball team loses to Purdue, but don't give up hope yet:

Comment - This article in The Detroit News quotes ESPN basketball expert Jay
Bilas, who says "They've got some pieces to be very good this year and the
potential to be great again (in the near future). They're really not far off
from being back up to a no-brainer top-five team."
Lots of talented players, but they just can't seem to grab a win lately.
Still, if they beat Minnesota on Saturday, they'll be 2-2 in the Big Ten
with a tough three-game road trip out of the way. The season is still young.
Remember, last year Indiana went all the way to the Final Four. And a couple
years ago, North Carolina barely made it into the NCAA tournament and ended
up in the Final Four.
