News - Aack! The Spartans lost to Michigan: http://www.detnews.com/2003/um/0301/27/d12-69793.htm

Comment - Here's the joke of the day: What do the Michigan and MSU basketball teams have in common? Neither are going to the NCAA tournament! (Michigan because of self-imposed sanctions, MSU because they stink).

I really thought MSU played well enough to win: few turnovers, good rebounding and defense. But they could not hit the big shot when they really needed it in the last five minutes.

The papers are full of stories about how mad Izzo was at Paul Davis for not hustling after a long in-bounds pass that ended up getting swiped by a Michigan player. But Davis' play did not lose the game. The Spartans lost because, unlike past teams, they don't seem to have a hero who can step up and hit the big shot they need to win games.

News - This morning in the sub-zero cold I saw the crescent Moon, Venus and Mars close together in the SE: http://www.space.com/spacewatch/moon_trifecta_030124.html

Comment - Mars was dimmer and closer to the Moon. All three morning planets - Venus, Mars and Mercury - will be visible in the SE over the next few days.
