News - Galileo spacecraft nears end of its remarkable exploration of Jupiter and its moons: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A8539-2003Jan3.html

Comment - I found this an interesting article because of the way it described how NASA scientists constantly reprogrammed the Galileo computers to keep the spacecraft limping along. They overcame a lot of major problems to give Galileo a much longer lifespan than anyone ever expected.

News - More about our trip to San Francisco.

Comment: We spent last Thursday in the downtown shopping district ( http://www.sallys-place.com/travel/san_francisco/n_unionsquare.htm ). We actually did not spend much money. Most of the fun was just the hustle and bustle and people-watching. There's a lot to be said about the energy and vitality of being in a big city, as long as you've got a quiet place to retreat to when you're done!

I was a little startled by the prices at the first parking garage we stopped at: $5 per 15-minutes. Ouch! Luckily, we found a cheaper place.

We thought about riding the cable car when we were downtown. Despite all our trips out there, we've still never ridden the cable cars. But there was a long, long line of tourists, so we skipped it again. We, of course, no longer feel like we are "tourists". We feel practically like part-time residents, thanks to the Rogers cottage in Fremont (oops, I mean Vanessa's apartment!)
